Resource Highlights
Program Director Support
The CALS Study Abroad office provides administrative and logistical support for faculty to develop and lead faculty-led study abroad programs. Faculty-led CALS study abroad programs are short-term study abroad programs that integrate an international component into the regular curriculum. These credit-bearing programs include an on-campus course for the semester with an international field trip ranging from 10 days to 6 weeks during a break (Fall/Thanksgiving, winter, spring, summer).
Advising CALS Students
Academic advisors in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences promote the personal and academic development of the student while broadening the student’s interest and outlook by encouraging self-discovery and academic breadth. Academic advisors have the institutional knowledge and connections to play a crucial role in connecting and informing students about international opportunities.
The CALS Study Abroad office works closely with academic advisors in the college to provide resources and aid to academic advisors, so they can advise current students on the array of study abroad opportunities through the college.
Course Credit Transfer Guide
How courses from a semester/summer program abroad come back to ISU:
- Transcripts from international institutions are sent to the CALS Study Abroad office.
- The office will send an approved copy of the original transcript to the ISU Office of Admissions credit transfer unit.
- Admissions will review the courses and complete a Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE.) Once complete, the TCE will appear on Workday under Transfer Credits.
- If one or more courses are needed to satisfy a particular requirement on the degree audit, students will have to work with their academic advisor (and sometimes a professor or a degree audit committee) to apply that transfer course to the degree audit on Workday. They will likely need to complete a degree audit adjustment request which is submitted to the college.
Students should keep an original transcript for their records. It is necessary to apply to graduate school, or other academic programs in the future.
It can also be helpful for students to provide coursework and syllabi for courses taken abroad.
