In early December, the International Farmers Aid Association (IFAA) held a portion of their Midwest Winter Seminar at Iowa State University with assistance from the CALS Office for Global Engagement. Four young farmers from Bolivia and Brazil spent a few days learning about agriculture, technology, and research at Iowa State University.
The group had several tours around campus including visits to the ISU Meat Lab, College of Veterinary Medicine, ISU Kent Feed Mill, Digital Ag Innovation Lab, and Lincolnway Energy LLC, before continuing on to additional tours in Iowa and Minnesota. As participants in the IFAA program, they will spend one year interning and being hosted by farms across the United States, learning about American culture, businesses, and agriculture.
The CALS Office for Global Engagement has collaborated with IFFA and the Midwest Winter Seminar for over 30 years, bringing hundreds of young farmers from across the world to Iowa State University's campus. For questions about the International Farmers Aid Association Exchange or more information about hosting an intern, contact Julio Ezawa at ifaa@sbcglobal.net.
Special thanks to Melissia Law and Shelley Taylor (CALS Office for Global Engagement) for coordinating this program.
