Service-Learning Program
One of the highlights of the Iowa State University and Makerere University partnership is the summer service-learning program in Kamuli, Uganda.
Each summer, Iowa State and Makerere University students live and work together on sustainable development projects such as agroforestry, beekeeping, irrigation, school lunch programs, post-harvest loss mitigation, poultry husbandry, and sanitation and hygiene.
While visiting Makerere, Dr. Owusu had the opportunity to interact with several past student learners and learn about the impact of the program from their perspectives.
Applications for the 2026 summer program are due November 1, 2025. Questions about the program should be directed to Dr. Julie Blanchong, julieb@iastate.edu
