CALS Student Awarded 2024 David Lambert Hunger Scholarship
Alaina Gebel, a sophomore studying Agriculture and Life Sciences Education, was awarded the 2024 David Lambert Hunger Fighter scholarship. Offered by ISU's Seed Science Center, this scholarship honors the legacy of David Lambert, Distinguished Fellow at the ISU SSC and tireless advocate in improving global food security. The scholarship is awarded annually based on academic excellence, leadership qualities and interpersonal skills.
During summer 2024, through the Dean's Global Agriculture and Food Leadership program, Alaina and her team researched the barriers and drivers of adoption of digital agriculture for smallholder farmers in east Africa and presented their findings at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, Italy. Upon returning to Iowa, Alaina interned at the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation where she developed and shared curricula for Iowa schools to learn about the legacy of Norman Borlaug.
