On December 11-13, 2023, CALS Office for Global Engagement welcomed six undergraduate students from Brazil to Iowa State University. Our strong partnership with the International Farmers Aid Association (IFAA) made this incredible opportunity possible. Since 1988, we have hosted more than 900 students from Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Bolivia, and Paraguay through this program. This year's visit was particularly special as it marked the first since 2020, after a temporary pause due to COVID.
Our Brazilian guests, interested in agronomy and veterinary medicine, had an unforgettable visit organized by the Office for Global Engagement. The itinerary included tours of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, the BioCentury Research Farm, Lincolnway Energy Company, and the ISU Meat Lab. These visits provided valuable insights and inspiration for our students as they compared and contrasted U.S. facilities to those in Brazil while engaging with professionals in their field of interest.
To learn more about Iowa State University and the academic offerings available, the group attended a presentation by Thelma Harding in the Graduate College and toured the Student Innovation Center.
We thank everyone involved in helping make the visit memorable for the students and look forward to continuing this longstanding partnership in the coming years.
